At the end of 1941, the alliance of Germany, Japan, and Italy known as Axis, continued expanding its scope of invasions, inflicting tremendous suffering on much of the world. American and British leaders decided to sign a declaration of combined operations against Axis. On January 1, 1942, 26 delegates from the United States, Britain, the Soviet Unions, China, Australia and other countries signed the Delaration by the United Nations in Washington and in other locations throughout the world. They were determined to uphold the principle of the Atlantic Charter and to cooperate in an all-out war against fascism. The Declaration marked the formation of the worlds anti-fascist front.
