In 1982 Tang Xiyang met Marcia Marks, an American foreign expert, in Xishuangbanna when they both made a trip to see and investigate the condition of Asiatic wild elephants. They shared common interests and ideals and eventually became husband and wife. In the period from 1989 to 1992 the couple made investigative tours of the soviet Union, Germany, Switzerland, France, Britain.

You may wonder how this book came about. I would say that I"walked it " instead of writing it. I have ealked for a total of 18 years starting from 1980, the year I was exonerated after years of political persecution. The same year I was asked to establish the Great Nature Journal.
